1943 World War II Steel Penny

1943 World War II Steel Penny

Only Mint issued magnetic coin in U.S. History. Sometimes referred to as the silver penny, it actually contained NO silver at all! During 1943 our country was at war and many natural resources were in short supply and needed as a priority for the war effort. Copper was such an item and necessary to manufacture shell casings for the war. As a result for one year only, 1943, all cents issued were made of steel, then zinc plated, giving them the "silver" effect. We have acquired a supply of these unusual cents and now make them available to our customers. good Condition.
